How to get there? From Quito, the capital of Ecuador, you can take Tame Airlines to the city of Esmeraldas on the coast. (a half hour flight, leaves daily at 9:30 a.m.) Then grab a cab to km. 14, via Tonchigue-Punta Galera. Watch for our sign just 3 kms. past Tonchigue, so you won't miss the abrupt right hand turn towards Punta Galera, and continue 14 kms. to our entrance. If you prefer to come overland so you can see the incredible scenery as you drop from 10,000 feet down through the cloud forests of the majestic Andes mountains, by rental car or bus, the journey takes about 6 hours. The bus line Pan-americana leaves at 11:30 from Avenida Colon in the newer part of Quito, and takes you to Esmeraldas city where you can get a taxi. Or the Trans Esmeraldas line, which leaves from their office, one block north of Avenida Colon, on calle 9 de Octubre at 9:45 a.m., and gets you a half hour closer to us in Atacames, making your taxi ride shorter and more economical. From Esmeraldas the taxi could cost up to 25 dollars u.s., from Atacames about 15 dollars, and from the airport about 35 dollars.

If you are coming by bus from Esmeraldas, or from Atacames, Sua, Same or Tonchigue, there are 2 bus lines which make 5 round trips a day. They are the Costeñita ("C") for Galera or Estero de Plátanos, and the River Tabiaso ("RT") for Quingue and Estero de Plátanos.

These busus come through Atacames about 45 to 60 minutes later and through Tonchigue another 30 minutes later, and then they take about one half hour to reach the gates of Playa Escondida.

Trans Esmeraldas returns to Quito from Atacames at 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Another option is the red eye with the Occidental bus line which leaves the terminal terrestre at 11:15 p.m. and gets to Tonchigue at 6:00 a.m.. It returns Tonchigue to Quito at 11:30 p.m..
